Tue, Oct. 19th, 2010, 03:49 pm A very fun .22 rifle
One of my favorite .22 rifles: a Tactical Solutions rimfire upper with an ETS suppressor, Primary Arms 1-4x scope, quad rail and green laser, Magpul AFG and GRSC single-point sling. 25rd stick mags and 50rd drums from Black Dog Machine complete the ensemble. There's the .22 conversion designed for CMMG by Bernie White. That works fairly well, though I would expect less accuracy form the oversized bore. I shoot almost entirely subsonic ammo through mine, so have yet to run into problems.

I can pull it out and take photos for you to see how it looks (after 1000+ rounds since cleaning). It's been extremely reliable for me, feeding all kinds of ammo (except the current Remington -- even bolt actions choke on that junk).

How do you like that scope, Oleg?

olegvolk: Re: Primary Arms scope

I have it on my .22 rifle. I gave another to a friend for use on his 450 Marlin bolt action and it held up fine. Putting another one on my RFB next: it may be inexpensive but the quality and the clarity and the clean reticle are awesome. Wish it had daylight visible illumination, but that's ACOG territory. Overall, I think it's the best price/performance choice out there and I've not seen better glass in other brands that run 2-2.5x as much.

I've been looking for a 1-4x24 scope for my AR for an occasional 3-gun match. Not sure I'm wanting to spend the $500-$1000+ to get equipped with decent glass comparable to what most competitors are running on theirs, although the Vortex Viper PST looks like a great scope for the money. Hadn't considered going with something like the PA. Hmmm...

I SERIOUSLY covet that scope and mount for my Browning Buck Mark HB carbine....TC

Is that the Primary Arms extended mount? How does it hold up? Going to buy this optic, but trying to decide between the PA mount and a LaRue mount? The LaRue mount is almost 2x the cost of the optic, but it will last forever.
Thank you.

I have no experience with LaRue mount, but this one held up fine on a friend's 450 Marlin bolt action.

Thank you sir. Think I will get the PA mount now, and LT later.

Correction: the 450 is using the same scope but I just checked the photos and the rings are different. I have not used the one-piece mount on anything over a .308 but it worked very well on that.

Nice rifle!
Personal question - how tall are you? - I'm around 6' 0", and I have arms like a orangutan. I usually run collapsible stocks fully extended, unless I'm clearing a house or in a vehicle. I've also seen some shorty fixed stocks, but I always thought they were for use with body armor...
Oh, the .450 Marlin bolt gun deserves a post of its own, if it doesn't already have one.

olegvolk: Re: Stock length

I am 6'1" or 6'2", with red dots and irons I tend to run stocks fully collapsed and have been putting A1 fixed stocks instead of A2s. With scopes, I've used positions closes, 1 out and 2 out but never fully extended.
