The original caption was (left) "Juden" and (right) "haben Waffen!"

The image came from the contemplation of a truly awful 32ACP design by Schwarzlose and also of the old article by Mike Vanderboegh, What Good Can a Handgun Do Against an Army.

Did somebody watch Inglourious Basterds this weekend?

No. And it wasn't based on "Defiance", either.

It's a nitpick, but you need a comma after "UNARMED,"

Technically, yes. But the pause is served by the break.

The comma would greatly improve readability, though. It took me a few seconds to figure out the meaning without it. Just my experience.

I don't think it would be visually pleasing to have a comma there, though. I didn't have any problem with readability.

Maybe move the "Unarmed" down towards the girl's feet, on the same level as "Armed", and move it further to the left, so it's more clearly "in the first panel"?

Yep- just as stated in Vanderboegh's essay if the populace is armed even with light weapons it becomes much easier to liberate heavier weapons.

WHile rusty I can still remember how to set a claymore, fire a Dragon, TOW or AT-4, etc etc. While I do not have any of those items now I do have the light arms necessary to ensure I have the potential to get them.

Great banner. Saved for later.

And I found the first few paragraphs in the blog you linked to a good read.

The parts where he kept to the actual topic (before descending into ridiculous partisan Godwin-fail hyperbole wanking) were very informative, and answer the question quite well.

A bit confusing at first. The far left photo can go. Recaption the center with "unarmed jews had no chance". The right one really looks like the girl is skipping down the road so "Armed they go happily on their way...."

Seen Inglourious Basterds yet?

I think it's great. The first two frames are disturbing and revolting, but then National Socialists are disturbing and revolting, so it's accurate. The last frame fixes it up nicely. -- Lyle

What a wonderfully offensive poster on so many levels. It ought to get the antigunners SERIOUSLY riled up to be compared to the Nazis. Which is no more than accurate, of course.

In case I'm being too obscure, Oleg, I like it. Well done. As a Jew who has visited the Yad Vashem (I'm too young to have lived through the Holocaust, though I've known Jews who did), all I can say is NEVER AGAIN.

I suppose the Nazis were giving subsidized "end of life counseling" to the Jews, but then quite a few Nazis received some "end of life counseling" of their own. -- Lyle

Very powerful statement. Notice that she is also stripped over her clothes in the first two frames after perhaps being tormented. It never got that far in the 3rd frame because she was armed. Hell maybe she shot him with the pistol and grabbed his rifle... even better.

bobn1955: What's wrong with the Schwarzlose 1908?

It looks about as simple as a semi-auto can be, including the grip safety and possibly a empty mag hold-open.

Yes it has a bit of the uglies, and racking it would be odd as hell (overhand grip might be the easiest way).

I suppose it means something that we never saw anymore blow-forward designs.
