A travelling gentleman should be able to take any incidental perils in stride.

Yeah, he should have an Enfield rifle or a Webley. He should keep further from his cover and lower. But this was a documentary photo, this is what the man truly did to win that fight.

;-)

More seriously, read his blog, Nashvillefiles.com. He is fighting against crooked politicians and other brigands.

Do you know what kind of car that is? It looks a bit like my brother's Triumph but I'm no expert.

It's a 1960 MGA. What kind of Triumph does your brother have?

A TR-3 that he's in the process of restoring. It used to be my dad's car.

Here's an old picture I scanned in. That's me sitting in the car wearing the cool sunglasses :p

Now that I'm looking at the photo, I see the differences. I guess it's just the steering wheel and the instrument panel that made me think of the car. Perhaps they are from the same time period and that's why.

Yes, they are from the same era. Fun cars...you just have to know how to work on them. It's a continuous hobby. :)

Work on it all week to be able to drive it on Sunday.

MG A, I think. The finest of British sporting auto-trash. Makes a nice match to the not period-correct PPK/S.

So, what was the true incident behind the story?

Owned a 1958 MGA-MKI. It was truly an incredible vehicle. Center of gravity seemingly set at some six inches below grade, almost impossible to roll. I hated the twin SU oil piston carburetors, required weekly tweeking... and the insufferable Lucas electronics! All that was forgiven and forgotten when running the twisting canyon roads with the top down, the Abarth exhaust growling... SIGH!

He should have this..

I'll buy myself one of these, when I get a
Czech citizenship. (Or rather the yugoslavian
copy, it's around 900$). 1200 rpm..
so fast that the sound of shots merges
into a very lound noise like ripping cloth.

Having owned several MG's, a Triumph and two E-type jags I can testify that the desire to shoot all of these cars was at times very strong. Remember the old adage.
"Why do Brits drink warm beer???"
"They have refrigerators made by Lucas"

Lordy yes, Lucas and BMC, British Leyland. I was a parts manager for a BMC dealership in Orange County, California back in the dark ages.

Then there is the tale of the gentleman who purchased an Jag XK-120 convertible (circa 1957)from the newly opened Jaguar dealership in Hollywood. He drove off the lot into one of the famous Southern California downpours and the ragtop leaked! He returned to the dealer. They attempted to fix the problem to no avail and finally wrote to the factory.

The response was so very typically British:

"A gentleman does not drive his Jaguar in the rain."

Terse and to the point...No one had told the Brits that the world had changed since the dissolution of the Empire and they were assuming that the whole world was still under the Imperial Union Jack!
