First photos from Appleseed shoot
I was only able to attend one of the two days. Will post photos as I find time to edit them. As always the rifle clinic is very useful. Attendees seems to vary from in age about 8 to 70. Guns ranges from the usual 10-22 in many trims to SKS to AR15 to various other bolt, pump and semi-autos.

90mm tilt earning its keep: the aperture is only f5!

The shoot boss, a very helpful man.

More pink: a serious student of rifle

I really like the TS-shots you've showcased lately. I recently got a TS-E lens myself, and have found it quite hard to get the focal plane really accurately in line with the "subject plane". Theoretically the focal plane tilts double the amount of degrees compared to the tilt of the lens, and becomes deeper with distance, so it should be even more forgiving. You wouldn't have further tips, other than to just keep practicing? Mine is the 45mm one, but the sensor is the small APS-C. Here's an example shot I took after a long time spent adjusting and focusing: http://img.redwolfairsoft.com/upload/review/198/mblack-rev-large.jpg

How does Ruger Mini-14 shoot? I keep hearing reports of its inaccuracy.

The one I used to have would do 2MOA -- till it got hot. It's a hunting rifle and meant for easy carry and few rounds at a time.

Ruger customer "service" convinced me not to buy any serious guns from them.

I literally can't get parts for the 10-22 -- I need an action screw and their parts number NEVER picks up.

There's an SKS and a 10/22 in the photos. No Mini-14, but as Oleg says, they're not too bad in the accuracy department. Their new Mini, starting in '08, has a heavier barrel and is suposed to be more accurate. It also now comes in a 6.8 SPC chambering. -- Lyle

I have owned several mini-14's over the years and have been able to shoot the bottom out of a coke can from 100 yards consistently with every one. Like any long gun, each one will prefer one particular variety of ammo over another. The add-ons are limited only by ones imagination, there are even after market heavy barrels and trigger jobs. However that is not really what the design is all about. If you will spend a little time at the range with several different loadings, you will end up with a handy little 223 rifle that will always be behind the seat of your truck, in a soft case, that always works no matter the weather, that you can shoot a squirrel, rabbit, deer, bad guy, or bottom out of a coke can at 100 yards without thinking a second about it. Oh yea, they use 30 round mags too. 100 round drum... ect...But they do get hot. If you scope it, you can shoot the staples out of your buddies target, but that's another story. hehehe... Kirk

Just a follow up on the info I gave on the mini-14 the other day, this Brownells sight is nice and informative.
