Hippies, punks, goths, nerds and everyone else.

This applies especially to police officers, soldiers and others who are considered authorities on weapons. Please take the time to pass your skills (firearm safety, marksmanship, tactics) to everyone else. Knowledgeable public who learned from you would give you more trust and support.

I've taught several people, including my mother-in-law, how to shoot. I also do my best to help new shooters at the range. Last week, I provided a guy teaching a couple of new shooters with some shoot-n-c's. I also helped another shooter load his P90 (rental) magazine. He couldn't figure out how to do it.
There are plenty of ways to help new shooters.

I have worked with Oleg on teaching a couple of new shooters as well as a few others, my little brother and sister included. It is a great pleasure to help those along with the basic knowledge that I have. Just this week I brought a new shooter to the range to work on the fundamentals of safety and shooting. The more we can do to educate, the more we can ensure the safety and longevity of our beloved pastime.

Just this weekend, I took my girlfriend shooting for the first time and pretty changed her attitude regarding guns in the process. She really took to shooting one of my .22 rifles.

Trijicon Reflex

It seems to work well outside, but washes out badly indoors. I think the Tripower is a much better concept, but it's execution kind of sucks due to the battery life.

I have one of the tritium/ambient Reflex IIs (no lightsticks for me), and it's fantastic.

On my suppressed Ruger 10/22, it's accurate enough to put rounds on a soda can at ~100 yards from a stable position, and accurate enough to put a full magazine on a small steel "oil drum" (about 1.5 feet wide) at the same distance from an offhand position.

My suppressed 10/22s my "new shooter gun". The minimal noise, recoil, and mechanical simplicity are key. The Reflex II's ease of use ("put the dot on what you want to shoot, then pull the trigger"), lack of magnification ("keep both eyes open if you want"), and adjusting for ambient light makes it an ideal sighting system for this purpose.

The lack of batteries is also nice.

Not cheap, but well worth it. I have yet to find any red dot that compares in all these respects.

After I got over being distracted by the extremely attractive new shooter in the forground, I couldn't help but notice that the instructor in the background isn't wearing hearing protection, like his student. Where's his hearing protection?

Excellent as usual, Oleg. I took another two new shooters to the range the other day (both male physics students -- sadly, no cute girls this time; that was last time) and everyone had a fun time.

I have yet to have anyone leave the range without a big honking grin and a favorable impression of firearms and their recreational uses.

While I might get one or two people to the range every now and again, your photos help many, many times more. Keep up the good work.

At the risk of pleading...
Do any of you wonderful, helpful, knowledgeable, people live in or know any other wonderful, helpful, knowledgeable people in SW Iowa (yes, its the sticks, i know) or the Omaha NE or Des Moines areas(my nearest cities)?
As a (very) new shooter who came to the States 18 months ago from a one of the most hoplophobic countries in the world (the once-great nation of Britain), I would LOVE to have the opportunity to shoot with and learn from experienced friendly shooters. Currently i occasionally grab the time to go out with the cheap .22 pistol that is the only gun I currently own or will be able to afford to own in the foreseeable future, or with relatives .22 rifles...
I realise a .22 is hardly an adequate defensive gun, but as said, its all i have... so i'd like to learn to shoot as well as possible!

I've run into some members on various forums, seems like a nice crew.
