Quite a comparison indeed.

I always find it amusing to compare two cartridges where the volume of the projectile of one exceeds the volume of the powder in the other (say, .308 vs. .22LR). Your example is just a bit more extreme. :)

Hmm. I think anything over 50 cal (except shotguns and muzzleloaders) is banned here... Isn't that the case in the US ? Destructive device label ?

---------

Odd couple indeed. Pavement kind of couple (this expression isn't used in English afaik, here we say that about couples with significant height disparity .. (1.5 to 1.9 m and so on) ... because the woman needs to be either picked up or stand on a pavement/chair to kiss her man ..

Remontoire

Nitro Express cartridges go up to .700, IIRC. They have a sporting purposes exemption. There's a couple of others, I'm sure, but those are the only ones I know of. Also, I believe it's just the gun that's the DD, unless the ammo is explosive, then each round is a DD.

So, an NE rifle(which will probably be an old double(talk about kick)) would be the cost of the gun(handmade, so very expensive), no special tax, and the same with the ammo(also handmade--something like $20 a round).

As W_W said ... some over .50 firearms are exempted for "sporting purposes".

Other .50+ weapons are not banned ( except in a few states ), but they are regulated and taxed. I personally own a Lahti ATR chambered in 20x138b.

Don't suppose you have a picture of someone holding the NE rifle?

I'd like to see .577 compared to 14.5 mm antitank...

I don't have 14.5mm but have 12.7mm US (50MBG).
