How could anyone inside a classroom stopped someone spraying bullets from the doorway?

The only thing that I can imagine is that perhaps the janitor could have taken him out.

If the shooter can see you, you can see the shooter. (Assuming he's not concealed, like a sniper would be, but simply standing in the doorway.)

Thus, barring any sort of freak ballistics, if he can see you, he can shoot you. Similarly, if you can see him, you can shoot him.

Guns don't "spray" bullets. They fire one at a time, in a single path.

Funny, no over seems to ask: How could any policeman or bodyguard ever stop a criminal-- isn't it just physically impossible?
or
Violence only begets violence, so why have cops or bodyguards at all?
or
Aren't guns far more of a danger to the cops and the bodyguards carrying them than to the criminals? yackity yackity yack...

People don't ask these questions because they don't have an underlying fear and repulsion of armed police and VIP protectors. Not yet anyway. And cops are "different" right? They're a different species or something, living in a parallel universe, subject to different laws of physics and human nature.

People *do* ask these questions about regular citizens because they have an overwhelming need to feel isolated from responsibility or from anything unpleasant.

I'll also say; Fine, by all means remain unarmed if you want. The Constitution doesn't force you to buy a weapon. You are free to rely on other people to set things right. There are plenty of people willing to carry the responsibility for themselves. Its just that in a free society its your duty to stay out of their way, and maybe even once in a great while show some respect and appreciation for them as well.

On the other hand, there are also plenty of regular citizens who would be more than happy to teach you the basics of proper gun handling and self defense. Then you'd know a lot more about these things from experience, and from knowledge and experience comes security and confidence. - Lyle

What I am asking is a genuine question. As far as I know the guy was shooting from the doorway without coming into the room. He was not a very strong guy, but it seems that his position of controlling the entry way is a much stronger one than the position of anyone in the middle of a room.

"Spray" was my gun incompetent way of saying firing rapid shots in succession.

I didn't make any of the silly strawman arguments you seem to be making.

A door way is a horrible place to be if someone is shooting back.

The guy in the doorway has to cover the entire room.

The entire room only has to cover the narror doorway.

Think of it like a funnel. Looking from the small part of the funnel to the large, one has alot of area to cover. Looking from the large end of the funnel to the small, one has a very small section to cover.

There's a reason professionals don't stand in doorways.

If someone is trying to kill me with a gun, my second prayer will be for him to "spray" bullets. My first will be for malfunction.

My third, of course, that my own aim be true. If he's spraying and I'm aiming, the odds are HEAVILY in my favor, even if shooting skills are similar. Of course, it would be negligent of me to let them be similar.

Criminals and lunatics absolutely do not expect an armed response from their victims.

Gary Kleck's study found that the safest response to violent crime, under all circumstances, is to silently draw your own firearm, and start shooting. The act of returning fire is so startling to most perps that they either flee or start shooting wildly.
